At first, make yourself clear that stress is not a disease, it is a feeling of emotional or physical tension. It can come from any situation or thought that makes you feel frustrated, angry, nervous, fear etc..

Stress is your body response to a challenge or demand. Stress can be positive when it stay for short periods, such as when it helps you avoid danger or meet a deadline. But when stress remains for a long time, it may harm your health.
Stress is a natural feeling.

There are mainly two types of stress:

    • Acute stress:-

This is short-term stress that goes away instantly. You observe it when you have a fight with your partner, or ski down a steep slope. It helps you manage critical situations. It also happens when you do something different or exciting.

    • Chronic stress:-

This is stress that continues for a longer period of time. You may have this chronic stress if you have money problems, an unhappy marriage, or difficulty at work. Any kind of stress that goes for a long time (weeks or months) is chronic stress. You can become so used to with this chronic stress that you don’t even realize it is a problem. If you don’t find methods to manage stress, it may lead to health problems.

Health problems caused or increased by chronic stress include:

    • Depression
    • Anxiety
    • Sleep problems
    • Autoimmune diseases
    • Digestive problems
    • Skin conditions, such as eczema
    • Heart disease etc.

According to the current survey:-

    • 36% of all adults who reported stress cited either their personal or friend/relative’s long-term health situation as a factor. This increased to 44% of adults over 55.
    • 49% of the 18-24-year-old person have experienced high levels of stress. They felt that comparing themselves with others was a source of stress, which was more than any age group.

In many colleges and universities, students attempt suicide when they go through study problems or stress. If you are going through these problems please do visit the best psychiatrist.

How to overcome stress:-

Exercise

Doing sport at least once a week is the best idea to overcome stress. Exercise or sports increases the level of endorphins produced by the body and this helps reduce stress. Even daily walks of 30 minutes can help overcome stress levels but it is even better to work out intensively.
Joining a sports club could also improve stress as regular communication with other people should help improve your mood.

Meditation

It might sound unimportant, but sitting calmly for 10 minutes a day can really help with stress levels. If you have never done meditation before, you must try at least once.
Good breathing ways can put you in a more relaxed state as they send oxygen surging through your bloodstream, improving to calm you down and overcome the stress.

Develop healthy living habits

Healthy living habits which reduce stress are; getting enough sleep, good nutrition (which includes drinking enough water) and exercise.
The healthier your bodies are, the better your emotional and thinking states become.

Find activities that keep you calm

We must do activities that keep us calm, and start doing more of these things to help reduce our stress.

– Read books,
– Take a bath
– Do yoga and meditation
– Relax
– Watch TV
– Take a nap
– Write in a diary etc.

Whatever the activities are, we must engage in them daily to allow ourselves a come down after hard day’s work. Each one of us needs some time to refuel and connect with our lives and loved ones outside of work.

Arrive early

To minimize our stress and the stress levels of others, make being on time a practice. When we are late we form stress between ourselves and the people we are facing. Being late for something or making somebody wait often increase the stress level for both. This may not sound so recurring but if being late becomes a habit, it may be a sign for increased stress. This tension can ruin the productivity of meetings.

Listen to Relaxing Music

Listing music is the ultimate solution for all type of stress or your daily life problem. Even in the work time, most people prefer to listen to music so that they don’t get stress during work.

People often prefer listening to music while:-
– Eating
– Driving
– Working
– Taking bath
– Travelling etc.

Well I will suggest you keep a good collection of your favorite song or the song that makes you happy.

Stress at first may seem nothing but it has the power to completely take over your life. Beat it before it beats you. Visit a psychiatrist before it is too late. FYI – One of the best psychiatrists in Jaipur is Dr. Sanjay Jain.
